Information Architecture

What is Information Architecture? At Daedalus, Information Architecture is the structuring of the many information systems, Web sites, Intranets, databases, training modules, and documents using navigation schemes, labeling, and appropriate interlinking. We combine standard information behavior research with an acquired understanding of your customers and stakeholders to produce a structure tailed to your needs. That's what we did for the assignments below.

Microsoft Licensing Web Site
Structure and launch the first Web site devoted solely to Microsoft's software licensing policies.
  • Site structure based on my analysis of customer verbatim
  • The structure that I developed at launch remains in place today proving that "good bones hold up well."

Serenity Insurance Web Site
What began as a Search Optimization consultation became a complete site redesign with new information architecture and features such as online consultation with an insurance specialist.

Current Project: HEAL/Africa.org
I discovered HEAL/Africa, a wonderful non-government agency doing very important work in providing medical services and education to the people of Congo, and wanted to help them take the HEAL/Africa Web site to the next level with a new site structure, redesigned page template and optimization for Search. This redesign project was assumed by an internal group at Microsoft with the new site launched in Fall 2006 to great fundraising success.

Incentive Architecture
In 2004, I delivered a presentation on Incentive Architecture, a proposed method of enhanced Web site navigation based on current customer information behavior research. Execution on concepts introduced and promoted in this presentation can be found in the Desktop Deployment section of TechNet where left navigation transitional volatility has enhanced customer satisfaction.

Microsoft Information Architects
Inspired by Lou Rosenfeld's workshop in Enterprise Information Architecture, I started the only cross discipline information architecture community of practice at Microsoft with over 270 members worldwide.
